Amit Shah, the Union home minister, stated on Saturday that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) would be enacted before the next Lok Sabha election. The law was passed by Parliament in December 2019.
Amit Shah emphasized that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is a national law and assured that it will certainly be implemented. He reiterated that it would be put into effect before the elections, emphasizing that there should be no confusion regarding this matter.
Shah stated that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was originally a commitment made by the Congress government. He pointed out that during the partition, the persecution faced by minorities in those nations, the Congress had promised refugees that they would be welcomed in India and granted Indian citizenship. According to Shah, the Congress is backtracking on that promise.

He unequivocally stated that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was introduced with the sole purpose of granting citizenship and not revoking anyone’s citizenship.
He emphasized that minorities in the country, especially the Muslim community, are being incited. Shah clarified that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) does not have any provision to revoke anyone’s citizenship. He reiterated that the CAA is intended to provide citizenship to refugees who faced persecution in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted migrants from non-Muslim communities, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians, who fled from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and entered India before December 31, 2014. Upon its passage by Parliament in December 2019 and subsequent approval by the president, widespread protests erupted across the nation.
