All You Wanted to Know About the ‘Bully Bai’ App Row

After photos of at least 100 influential Muslim women were uploaded for auction on an app, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that hosting platform GitHub has confirmed the user’s blocking and CERT and police officials are planning further action. are coordinating. Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) is the nodal agency dealing with cyber security threats.

Sully Deal 2.0

Uploading pictures on the ‘Bully Buy’ app was similar to the ‘Sully Deals’ upload in July last year. The ‘Bully Buy’ app works just like Sully Deals did. Muslim women with a strong presence on Twitter, including journalists, were singled out and their pictures uploaded.

Opposition targeted the government

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, “Insult to women and communal hatred will stop only when you stand against it in one voice and the year has changed, so change your luck and it’s time to speak.”

NCP leader Nawab Malik tweeted, “Watching online auction of outspoken Muslim women in Sulli deals is beyond pain and I have also had a telephonic conversation with 2 victims. I will write to Home Minister @Dwalsepatil ji and demand a probe. Maharashtra will always stand with the daughters of the country!”

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday “condemned that criminals who take such degrading and degrading actions against Muslim women are given a free hand,” the former chief minister tweeted.

A “bully bye”, created on GitHub, popped up on January 1, with several photos of women, including journalists, social activists, students and famous personalities, with derogatory content. Like ‘Bully Bye’, ‘Sully Deals’ was also hosted on GitHub. Last year, two FIRs were registered after Delhi and Uttar Pradesh police misused photographs of Muslim women in the Sully Deal incident, but no coercive action has been taken against the perpetrators so far.

The central government had cited objectionable content against women to frame new digital rules that called for middlemen to identify the user hosting the objectionable content within 24 hours. It is not clear whether the same rules were used in the ‘Sully Deal’ and in the case of ‘Bully Buy’ are being applied to ask the hosting platform to identify the user to take action.
