Mumbai: Six people, including a firefighter, were injured when a ground plus a three-storey under-construction structure collapsed on the adjoining structure at Mehta Baba Chawl. Andheri On the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the disaster management department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), a 51-year-old fireman Vishwas Dattaram Rahate suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby private hospital. He was discharged after first aid.
The incident took place at Mehta Baba Chawl, Amar Society, Juhu Gali, Near Salami Hotel, Andheri (West) at 00:28 am on Tuesday and was reported by Mumbai Fire Brigade at 1:30 pm. The five injured have been identified as Akbar Mehtab Sheikh (60), Chand Akbar Sheikh (34), Arif Samshuddin Sheikh (17), Hazra Samshuddin Sheikh (18) and Shamshuddin Sheikhi (50). Hospital sources said all the injured were taken to Cooper Hospital.
On receiving the information, the police and fire brigade immediately reached the spot and rescued five people present in the house when the building collapsed. Police said all had minor injuries.
The reason behind the collapse is yet to be ascertained.
