BTS’s Major International Collaborations, From Coldplay to Ed Sheeran and Megan Thee Stallion

The collaboration of South Korean boy band BTS and British band Coldplay is generating a lot of buzz, and for all the right reasons. The wait is finally over as the track My Universe is releasing today on 24th September. The septet, consisting of RM, Jin, Suga, Jimin, J-Hope, V and Jungkook, debuted in 2013 and has since seen a meteoric rise despite all the conflict and discrimination turning its way. And within these 8 years, the K-pop group has done it all, from speaking and performing at the United Nations to being nominated for a Grammy. He has also received love from many other global icons as he has expressed his desire to join hands with the phenomenal band.

So, while ARMY and Coldplay fans wait for the track to drop, we quickly take a look back at all of BTS’ past international collaborations.

Steve Aoki

American DJ and record producer Steve Aoki is a longtime collaborator with Bangtan Sonyeondan. In 2017, he produced a remix of BTS’s song Mic Drop featuring rapper Designer. Steve’s 2018 song West It On Me featured three members of the Bangtan Boys—RM, Jimin, and Jungkook—on his album Neon Future III. The song also marked BTS’s first all-English single. Steve also starred on BTS’ The Truth Untold on their album compilation Love Yourself: North from the World.

Ed Sheeran

In an interview, V Ya Kim Taehyung stated that Ed Sheeran is BTS’s best friend. So what do we get when best friends come together to do what they’re best at? Two fun songs – Make It Right and Permission to Dance.

Make It Right is a track from BTS’s 2019 album Map of the Soul: Persona. Interestingly, the septets haven’t met the Shape of You singer yet!

Halsey

In the same interview, Jang Hosok or J-Hope said that Halsey is his best friend. It’s no secret that both BTS and Halsey share a great relationship with each other. Rapper Suga was featured on his album Manic for Suga’s Interlude, and she was seen in BTS’s 2019 song Boy with Love from their album Map of the Soul: Persona. Unlike Ed, they have met several times and exchanged gifts as a token of their friendship.

Megan The Stallion

BTS and Megan Thee Stallion joined hands to remix tracks of BTS’s chartbuster song Butters. They had recently met as the group was in the United States to give speeches and demonstrations at the United Nations.

The track Best of Me marked the collaboration of the Chainsmokers and BTS. The upbeat and peppy deal with the remarkable lyrics of BTS and the funky beats of the Chainsmokers is the perfect combination of the two groups.

American singer-songwriter Louv was featured in the reboot of Make It Right. The single was co-written by Ed Sheeran.

BTS’s famous track on their album Map of the Soul: 7 features Chandelier singer Sia. Their collaboration track was only available in the digital release of the album.

The live performance of Old Town Road marked the K-pop group’s first Grammy performance and their collaboration with Lil Nas X. A remix of the song was later released titled Seoul Town Road featuring RM.

MNEK

British singer MNEK wrote Paradise for the septet’s Love Yourself album. In an interview, the singer had revealed that the collaboration happened at a time when he had broken up with his significant other. He wrote a track called Mouth which later became Jannat. The lyrics of the song were changed but MNEK liked the result.

Nicki Minaj

Popular singer Nicki Minaj added her own pizza to the track in the second version of BTS’ super energized track Idol.

Charli XCX

For their mobile game BTS World, Jin, Jimin and Jungkook released a song Dream Glow which was backed by English singer Charli XCX. She said in an earlier interview that she was in Seoul in 2017 when she met Septet and the idea of ​​a collaboration came up.

Apart from these, rapper RM has collaborated with many international artists including Fallout Boys, rapper Wale, Korean-American rapper Tiger JK and English electro music duo Hon. Suga also collaborated with Max for the song Blueberry Eyes. She was featured in the song titled Eight by South Korean singer IU.

J-Hope, who previously expressed his love for the song Chicken Noodle Soup by Webstar and Young Bee, released his own version with Latino singer Becky G.
