New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested five people and claimed to have busted one search engine optimization scam This has given rise to several fake e-commerce websites to dupe people, police said on Thursday.
Search engine optimization is the process of improving the quality and quantity of traffic from search engines to a website or web page.
The accused have been identified as Vijay Arora (37), a resident of Paschim Vihar. Manmeet Singh (29) and Avtar Singh (32), both residents of Nilothi Extension; Rajkumar (30), resident of Bijwasan; And Rani Bagh resident is Pradeep Kumar (32).
Police said that over 10,000 people were duped of around Rs 25 crore in the last three years.
According to the police, they received several complaints where the victims alleged that they had ordered a tablet from www.bookmytab.com after an advance payment of Rs 3,699 or Rs 3,999, but the product was never delivered.
A senior police officer said that the police scanned the website and found that it was being used to dupe people on a large scale and several complaints were received online as well.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Anyesh Roy said, “During investigation, the location of the accused was zeroed. The location of main accused Arora was raided and substandard material and substandard products were recovered from his office.”
Later, their operations managers and campaign manager involved in search engine optimization for pushing fake websites were also arrested, the DCP said.
Arora started his company as a courier aggregator for several online shopping companies, from where he got the idea of ​​creating a fake shopping website.
In the last three years, he has created more than 60 fake shopping websites.
Police said these websites provide electronic items or clothing items at throwaway prices.
However, after receiving the payment, they do not ship the product. He said that if a victim asks for a refund, he sends a product of substandard quality.

He is the Chief Online Campaign Manager of the entire operation which uses search engine optimization techniques to advertise and promote fraudulent websites online.
Police said that he has so far created more than 30 websites for Arora.
