BTech at IIT Goa: Admission through JEE, scholarships, placements, hostel

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Goa is one of the youngest IITs established in 2016 by the Ministry of Education and was mentored by IIT Bombay for three years. Presently, the institute offers three degree programs – B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D in various core and non-core specializations.

The courses offered here by the seven schools of IIT Goa are Mathematics and Computer Science, Electrical Science, Physical Science, Mechanical Science, Humanities and Social Science, Chemical and Material Science and Interdisciplinary Life Science. The institute has not yet been included in the NIRF ranking.

BTech in IIT Goa

The institute offers four undergraduate (B.Tech) programs in engineering and follows a semester system. An academic year (July–April) consists of two semesters, namely autumn and spring, each approximately 16 weeks in duration. In each of the two semesters of the first year, a student is required to register for the relevant courses listed in the syllabus for that semester. B.Tech program consists of eight semesters spread over four years. During the first semester there will be a common syllabus in all the branches and in the rest of the semester there will be different syllabus depending on the program chosen by the students.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is a part of the School of Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCS). The department was started in 2016 when IIT Goa was established. The department believes in the philosophy of transformative education which empowers our students to become agents of change. It believes in the philosophy of empowering faculty members and research staff to achieve excellence in teaching and research.

IIT Goa has signed an MoU with US-based marketing analytics services firm ‘Xpress Analytics’ to collaborate in the area of ​​data science and analytics including artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.

IIT Goa: How to apply?

Step 1: Visit the official website of NTA (nta.ac.in) – and apply for the required national level entrance exam.

Step 2: Fill the application along with required documents. Fill JEE (Main) for B.Tech candidates.

Step 3: Pay the application fee and submit the form.

Step 4: Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of JEE (Main) and (Advanced) scores

Step 5: Seats are allotted for JoSAA counseling

Step 6: Check Merit List for Result.

Step 7: Wait for counseling

Step 8: If selected then pay the admission fee or wait for the next merit list.

Scholarship

The Institute Merit Cum Means (MCM) Scholarship is awarded to non-SC/ST B.Tech students of the Institute up to 25 per cent students strictly on a merit-cum-means basis. This includes a tuition fee waiver and a fixed monthly stipend for eight months.

Free Messing (FM) scholarship facilities are provided to all B.Tech students belonging to SC/ST category. This includes a fixed monthly stipend for eight months, free meals (for basic menu only) and a hostel seat fare waiver. Tuition fee is waived by law for all SC/ST students.

Fee is exempted for all UG students (as defined by the Ordinances on these programs) as per the norms set by IIT Council or Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India.

Amid this pandemic, the Career Development Cell (CDC) has recorded 98 per cent placement for BTech and MTech students with the highest package of 1.12 crores.

A total of 142 companies have registered for placements in the assessment year 2021-22. Of the 74 B.Tech students who registered, 73 secured jobs with an average package of Rs 23.4 lakh per annum. This year students received 12 international offers, and positions are located in Dublin, Berlin, Spain, Japan and Mexico.

hostel

The hostel complex of the institute consists of four blocks where three blocks are reserved for male students and one block for female students. Each hostel room accommodates two students with basic amenities.

sports facility

IIT Goa offers various sports facilities with a separate sports field for volleyball, football, table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton and chess. The students are guided by experts and the college teams actively participate in Inter IIT competitions. It also hosts a well equipped gymnasium complex for the students.
