Lok Sabha member from Ghazipur Afzal Ansari was sentenced to four years imprisonment by the MP/MLA court on Saturday.

BSP MP Afzal Ansari was on Monday disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha after he was convicted and sentenced to four years in jail in a kidnapping and murder case.

Ansari was a Lok Sabha member from Ghazipur, and was sentenced to four years in jail by the MP/MLA court on Saturday, news agency PTI Said.

His brother, criminal-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was also convicted in the same case and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

What was his crime?

The brothers were booked under the UP Gangsters Act for the November 29, 2005 murder of then Ghazipur MLA Krishnanand Rai and the 1997 abduction and murder of Varanasi-based businessman Nand Kishore Rungta.
