BSP returns in NRHM scam, Court calls death of former deputy CMO murder

Lucknow: The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam that shook the Mayawati government has started troubling the BSP. The court of Special CBI Judge here has termed the prima facie death of former Deputy CMO Dr YS Sachan as murder. Sachan died under mysterious circumstances on June 26, 2011 in a jail in Lucknow, where he was lodged in a case related to the NRHM scam.

The state government had termed it as a case of suicide. Special Judicial Magistrate Samridhi Mishra of CBI Court gave this order on the petition of Malti Sachan, wife of late Dr. The then DGP Karamveer Singh, Additional DGP VK Gupta and IG Lucknow Zone Subhash Kumar Singh have been summoned by the court on August 8.

The court also summoned the then jailer of Lucknow jail BS Mukund, deputy jailer Sunil Kumar Singh, chief prisoner warden (captive guard) Babu Ram Dubey and prisoner guard Pahindra Singh to present their side as accused in the case on August 8.

On 11 July 2011, a judicial inquiry had declared Sachan’s death a murder. On 14 July 2011, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court handed over the case to the CBI.

The CBI had filed a closure report on September 27, 2012, terming Dr. Sachan’s death as a suicide. Malti Sachan challenges the closure report of the CBI. The special CBI court accepted Malti Sachan’s application and directed the CBI to investigate the matter further.

Though the CBI submitted the closure report in the case again on August 9, 2017, the special CBI court rejected the closure report on November 19, 2019. During the hearing of the case, Malti Sachan produced several documents in the court, including a post-mortem report of her husband and the opinion of medical experts.
