BSNL slashes prices of entry-level prepaid plans for wider adoption: New rates

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the state-owned telecom company, has come up with new prices for its services to enhance the affordability of the plans. The company has revised rates for plans priced below Rs 100 and has brought a difference of up to Rs 2 in plans starting October 18.

in the beginning, BSNL Offered in three plans – Rs 56, Rs 57 and Rs 58 – with different validity. With the Rs 56 plan, customers get talk time of 5,600 seconds which is valid for 8 days. The Rs 57 plan comes with 10GB data and access to Zing Entertainment Music and is valid for 10 days. The Rs 58 plan allows customers to extend their international roaming services for 30 days. As per the revised rates, the Rs 56 plan will now cost Rs 54; Rs 57 plan will now cost customers Rs 56; The Rs 58 plan currently costs Rs 57.

Interested customers can avail the plans with revised rates by sending SMS to 123 from their mobile sets. Apart from this, new schemes can also be availed through various digital portals including My BSNL application or official BSNL website. However, the revised plans are, for now, available only for customers in Kerala, reported Kerala Telecom. The revised rates come at a time when the state-run enterprise is struggling to sustain and be profitable in the current market. According to a report by Telecom Talk, BSNL lost over 60,000 subscribers in August 2021. Presently, the active subscriber base of BSNL is around 57 crores.

Though the telecom company is struggling to maintain its subscriber base, it is not in a bad shape like Vodafone-Idea. According to reports, Vodafone-Idea Group lost over 83 lakh subscribers in August 2021, which is a lot in a month. On the other hand, telecom tycoons like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio gained around 1.4 lakh and 6.5 lakh subscribers in a month.
