New Delhi: Former West Indies captain Brian Lara believes Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener Shubman Gill is just one match away from playing a big innings. Lara said that young talented batsman Shubman has been a bit unlucky in the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League and has not been able to showcase his full batting potential. The former Windies captain feels that Shubman should be given a second chance and the KKR team management should not take him away from the playing XI in future matches. The star batsman has scored 48, 13, 9 and 30 runs in his last few IPL games till the ongoing match against Punjab Kings in the second leg of IPL 2021.

Brian Lara said, “Shubman has been a bit unlucky. If you see him batting, he is in some form or the other and I am sure he is a match away from a big score. He is good with Venkatesh Iyer. We are partnering and I think the two can come together and do something special. KKR wouldn’t want to replace Shubman right now.”

Lara said that the batting order of the strong looking Punjab Kings has not performed as expected. “I think he has potential. He is not playing good cricket right now. His batting has always been strong. Although Nicholas Pooran and Chris Gayle have been dismissed on several occasions,” he said.
