BREAKING: Tokyo Olympics 2020 will be held without spectators due to COVID-19 emergency

Tokyo: Tokyo Olympics 2020 will be played behind closed doors without spectators. This decision has been taken in view of the increasing cases of Kovid-19 in Japan.

Tokyo: The Olympic Games are going to start from July 23 in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. But the increasing cases of Kovid-19 in Tokyo have dealt another blow to the Japanese government and the organizers of the Olympic Games. In light of rising COVID-19 cases, a meeting with experts was called in which government officials proposed to impose a state of emergency in Japan from next Monday until 22 August.

The Olympic Games were earlier postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Japanese government can take more tough decisions regarding the Olympic Games. Foreign spectators will not be allowed to enter the ground during the game.

Games president Seiko Hashimoto said the situation was “regrettable” and the committee would ensure that people who bought tickets were refunded.

Tokyo had previously banned fans from abroad from entering the city. Only Japanese fans will be present during the games but with this announcement the scenario has changed again.

A group of 26 medical experts led by Dr. Shigeru Omi had advised (in a report) that holding the Olympics with fans would increase the risk of the spread of COVID-19. “We believe that holding events without fans will minimize the risk of infection inside venues,” the report said. Dr Omi is a former member of the World Health Organization.

Japanese civil society was against holding the Tokyo Games with fans present in the stadium.
