breaking | SC refuses to interfere with CCI probe challenged by Amazon and Flipkart

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to interfere with the Competition Commission of India’s investigation against e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart for alleged competition law violations.

The top court has also extended by four weeks the time for the companies to join the investigation.

E-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart had challenged the orders of the Karnataka High Court, which refused to interfere with the preliminary investigation by the CCI into their alleged anti-competitive practices.

The Karnataka High Court (HC) on Friday dismissed the appeals of Amazon India and Flipkart against the investigation by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for violation of competition law.

A single-judge bench had on June 11 dismissed the writ petitions of Amazon and Flipkart, after which both the tech giants had moved the Supreme Court that their cases had not been heard on ‘merit’.

In previous hearings, legal advisors to both Flipkart and Amazon have argued that the CCI has deviated from its own practice; And started investigating e-commerce entities without any clear evidence.
