Punjab’s first Dalit Chief Minister Charanjit Channi took oath on Monday along with two Deputy Chief Ministers Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and OP Soni. Earlier, the name of Brahm Mahindra along with Randhawa had cropped up for Deputy CM, but this did not happen. There is a discussion in the political circles that Brahm Mahindra’s leaf was also cut due to the opposition of Navjot Sidhu camp. It is very important in the politics of Punjab that Congress has made two deputy CMs from Majha region after the Chief Minister from Malwa region. Most of the leaders of Malwa have been close to Captain Amarinder. This is the biggest reason why the Sidhu camp is sidelining him. Malwa has one and a half times the seats than Majha and Doaba. The Malwa region, which gives the maximum number of seats to the Congress, cannot be ignored. In such a situation, Congress can fulfill it by making a cabinet minister from here. Omprakash Soni was born on 3 July 1957 in Bilowal, Amritsar to Jagat Mitra Soni. After becoming a councilor, he was elected mayor of Amritsar in 1991. In 1997, Soni became MLA from Amritsar Central for the first time. Now he has been elected MLA for the 5th time. Soni was earlier considered very close to Captain Amarinder Singh. After Navjot Singh Sidhu became the president, he became close to him and joined the anti-captain camp. Due to Sidhu’s protest, Brahm Mahindra’s leaf was cut and OP Soni became the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab.
