The development of the project has been stalled since the Directorate of Higher Education had received a piece of gram sabha land in Ghumanhera land in 2018 for the inauguration of the new campus, a university official said.

BR Ambedkar University of Delhi (AUD) has written to the Kejriwal government saying it may open a campus in southwest Delhi’s Ghumanheda village if necessary physical infrastructure and requisite manpower clearance is provided.

The development of the project has been stalled since the Directorate of Higher Education got a piece of gram sabha land in Ghumanhera land in 2018 for the inauguration of the new campus, a university official said.

In the letter dated April 27, the university mentioned that a committee constituted by the university had recommended opening a campus offering courses approved by its statutory body on the proposed land.

A committee was formed by AUD, a public university, to evaluate the feasibility of the site to open a new campus.

“The Committee recommends that Dr. BR Ambedkar University may consider opening of courses offering Delhi University Campus, as may be approved by the Statutory Body of the University, on the proposed land, if the required manpower is approved by the University. Necessary physical infrastructure is provided along with Government of NCT of Delhi for the same,” the letter mentioned.

Last year, the Delhi government had sanctioned an amount of Rs 2,306.58 crore for opening campuses at Rohini and Dheerpur.

“To meet the educational needs of such a large population of students, the new campuses have been designed to ensure the most conducive environment for mass engagement, self-development, knowledge generation and dissemination, community living and facilitating an inclusive culture ” Former Delhi Deputy and Education Minister Manish Sisodia had said.
