  • Will Prabhas’ Radhe Shyam slow down Gangubai Kathiawadi’s run at the domestic box office?

After Allu Arjun’s Pushpa Hindi version collected an astonishing Rs 100 crore plus, it has been proved that cinema is all set to take over in the post-pandemic world. Along with good content, the language barriers are becoming increasingly blurred. Now, Baahubali and Saaho star Prabhas is aiming to rule the box office with his pan-India release Radhe Shyam. After several delays during the pandemic, it has finally released in theaters on March 11. Since Prabhas is a megastar down south, the film is expected to do well in this region. But what about the Hindi belts that responded very well to his last two releases?

According to Box Office India, Radhe Shyam’s collections in the northern markets will largely depend on word of mouth. It is carrying the image of a dubbed film and only good content can help it take the burden off its back and reel on the audience.

BOI said that Saaho (2019) made a very strong start at Rs 25 crore in the North, but still, Radhe Shyam will have to prove his mettle. The film has great visuals and is well packed with songs. It seems that this is a truly pan-India film and should not be confined to the markets of the south. However, word of mouth should be good as was the case with Pushpa. The Kashmir Files, starring BOI reports Anupam Kher and Mithun Chakraborty as Radheshyam’s good rival. It would not be surprising if The Kashmir Files manages more collections in multiplexes in Mumbai and Delhi NCR than Radhe Shyam, the report said.

During this, Alia BhattAccording to BOI, Gangubai Kathiawadi is doing very well at the international level. It has managed to collect more than USD 5 million (about Rs 40 crore) in the United States, Canada, UK and the Middle East combined, which is a great business during the pandemic.

According to the report, Gangubai Kathiawadi may extend her international run to USD 7 million (about Rs 54 crore) after three weeks. Add to this the domestic collections and the film can enter the Rs 200 crore club for the worldwide collections. However, in India, Radheshyam can present a challenge for this.

Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi has managed to face competition from Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, which released last week, and will now have to brave the storm of ‘Prabhas’ at the domestic box office.
