Former India all-rounder Murali Karthik sparked the ‘Mankading’ debate yet again by sharing a picture of the non-striker batsman leaving the crease early before the last ball was bowled by Sandeep Sharma during the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals.

In a stroke of luck, Sharma bowled a no-ball, and Abdul Samad hit the last ball of the innings for a six to help Sunrisers Hyderabad win the match after last-ball play. Earlier, Samad failed to deliver properly and was declared out as he gave a simple catch at long-on but was overstepped by Sandeep, thus giving the Orange Army and Abdul a second lease of life.

After yet another dramatic end to the IPL 2023 match between SRH and RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, Karthik called for a penalty for non-striker batsmen to stop what is popularly known as the penalty run or dot ball. Practice – termed it ‘unfair’ on the bowlers.

Karthik tweeted, “Yes, the bowler should not violate the boundary and should be punished… But what about the non-striker who constantly strays under pressure or otherwise.”

He further wrote, “Something should be deterrent, penalty run, dot ball nothing else this will continue…unfair..#mytwocents.”

Talking about the match, Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bat first, after which Jos Buttler’s 95 off just 59 balls helped his team post 214/2 in 20 overs. Made, which included 10 fours and four sixes.
