India’s writer Gitanjali Shree has won this year’s prestigious Booker Prize. The award has been given for his novel Tomb of Sand. Geetanjali Shree’s novel was published in Hindi under the name ‘Ret Samadhi’. The special thing is that Tomb of Sand is the first book in Hindi language to win the book. It is also the first book to win the award in any Indian language.
Writer Geetanjali Shree was presented the Booker Award on Thursday in London. Geetanjali received a prize money of 50,000 pounds, which she will share with Daisy Rockwell. It was translated into English by American writer-painter Daisy Rockwell. Gitanjali Shree’s novel was among the 13 books in the world that were included in the list of awards. The prize was announced at the London Book Fair on 7 April 2022, but the winner has now been announced.

Gitanjali Shree of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh received the award, expressing happiness when she said – I had never dreamed of a booker. This is a great achievement. I’m amazed, I never thought I could do this. He said – I am grateful to my French translator Animanto including Hindi-English and French publishers.
Geetanjali Shree has so far written three novels and collections of stories. His novels and fiction collections have been translated into English, German, Serbian, French and Korean languages.

Know the Booker Prize
The full name of the Booker Prize is the Man Booker Prize for Fiction. It was founded in 1969 by the Booker McConnell Company of England. In this, an amount of 60 thousand pounds is given to the winner. This title is given every year to a book published in Britain or Ireland or translated into English. The first Booker Prize was awarded to Albanian novelist Ismail Qadre.
