Bonus for railway employees, boost to textiles sector: Major decisions of Union Cabinet – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday announced some important decisions for the railways as well as the textile and apparel sectors.
Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Anurag Thakur briefed the media about the decisions taken after the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Here are the major announcements:
Bonus for Railway Employees
* Productivity linked bonus equal to 78 days’ salary will be given to non-gazetted employees in the railway sector.
*About 11.56 lakh non-gazetted railway employees will benefit from the bonus for the financial year 2020-21.
* The Center will spend about Rs 1,985 crore on this.
Textile and Apparel Sector
* The cabinet approved setting up of 7 Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM Mitra) Parks in the next five years with a total outlay of Rs 4,445 crore.
* This move will provide 7 lakh direct and 14 lakh indirect jobs.
* PM Mitra will be developed by a special purpose vehicle owned by State Governments and Central Government in PPP mode.
* It will take advantage of 5F power: from farm to fiber; fiber to the factory; factory for fashion; and foreign to fashion
* The scheme will enable spinning, weaving, processing, dyeing and printing and garment manufacturing at one place.
* It will also reduce logistics cost by locating the entire value chain at one place.
*Mitra Parks will be set up in Greenfield and Brownfield located in the States which are willing to participate. So far 10 states have shown interest.
* An assistance of Rs 500 crore will be given by the Center to all greenfield and Rs 200 crore to brownfield Mitra parks for development.
