Bombay High Court rejects Armaan Kohli’s bail plea in drugs case, actor in jail since August

The Bombay High Court on Monday rejected the bail plea of ​​actor and former Bigg Boss contestant Armaan Kohli in a drug-related case. The actor had moved the high court after a special court rejected his bail plea against Kohli citing prima facie evidence of smuggling and purchase of drugs.

However, the NCB opposed the bail application by filing an affidavit and said that Kohli’s role in the case was serious and serious. It also highlighted the fact that Kohli has been booked under serious charges of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and as such should not be released on bail.

Kohli’s lawyer Vinod Chate said his client is innocent and has been falsely implicated. In the court, Kohli argued that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) did not have any incriminating evidence against him. He said the special court’s observations were based on the general allegations against him. Kohli also said that there was no financial transaction between him and the alleged drug smugglers.

The High Court said that the WhatsApp chat between Kohli and the smugglers should be probed. It said there was a possibility of tampering of evidence while rejecting the bail application.

However, the court granted bail to two co-accused in the case- Karim Dhanani and Imran Ansari.

Kohli was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in August 2021 after he seized 1.2 grams of cocaine from his residence during a raid. The Bollywood actor has been lodged in Arthur Road Jail since then.
