The Joint Admission Board of IITs opposed the plea on the ground that as per their records, Desai had logged on to the portal for the first time to fill the online form a day after the deadline and hence no relief should be granted. Him.

A vacation bench of Justice Abhay Ahuja and Justice Milind Sathaye in its order dated May 24 accepted the IIT’s contention and said that it cannot disturb the discipline adopted by the institute in the larger interest of lakhs of aspiring meritorious students of the country.

A copy of the order was made available on Monday.

“There is no doubt that IITs, NITs and other institutes are centers of excellence in technical studies in India. The process of finding the best talent in this country is based on discipline which is of utmost importance in the field of education.

“This is a period long enough to complete the registration for all candidates, even assuming difficulties such as internet disturbances and power outages. The candidates who have been placed in a less advantageous position, such as the petitioner, They have enough time to reach places with better connectivity and power supply,” the court said.

It further said that as per Desai’s login details, he had logged in to the portal for the first time on May 8 and had been able to successfully log in to the portal nine times.

“We fail to understand why the petitioner has not been able to login to the portal in the last eight days when the window for registration was open. There has been no explanation from the petitioner on this,” the court said.

It is not possible to accept the contention of Desai that he was unable to register for the examination within the time limit due to internet glitch or power outage.

The bench also noted that Desai did not even once attempt to approach the admission board of the IIT for redressal of his grievance.

The rules laid down for appearing in JEE-Advanced were binding on all candidates and dismissed the petition.
