Body of Karnataka student killed in Ukraine to be donated to medical college

Damage: The family of Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar, a Karnataka student who died in war-torn Ukraine, has decided to donate his body to a medical college in the state.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced that Naveen’s body will reach the Bengaluru International Airport early Monday.

Shekharappa, the father of the slain student, said on Friday that he was sad as the process of bringing back his son’s body was getting delayed. “Now, the sadness is gone after knowing that we will be able to see his body for the last time,” he said.

He told that the body is reaching Chalgeri village on Monday. He said that after performing the last rites, the family has decided to donate the body to SS Medical College, Davangere.

He said that this decision has been taken to enable the students of medical colleges to pursue their studies.

He also thanked everyone for bringing back his son’s body after 21 days.

Naveen’s mother Vijayalakshmi also thanked the authorities for bringing back her son’s body, saying it has brought some relief.

Naveen was murdered in Kharkiv city on March 1 when he came out of the bunker in search of food. The state government has given a compensation of over Rs 25 lakh to his family.
