The Air Force has started a major rescue operation at an altitude of 17,000 feet at Lamkhaga Pass in Uttarakhand. On October 18, 17 trekkers, including tourists, porters and guides, lost their way due to heavy snowfall and bad weather. Out of these, the bodies of 11 people were found on the way to Lamkhaga Pass.

The mountaineers started trekking from Harshil in Uttarakhand on October 14. They were to reach Chitkul in Himachal Pradesh, but due to bad weather from October 17 to 19, they lost their way near Lamkhaga pass. Lamkhaga Pass is one of the most inaccessible pass connecting Harshil in Uttarakhand and Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh.

Airforce’s rescue mission continues even in the midst of bad weather
The Air Force deployed two helicopters for the search operation on Wednesday. The next day on Thursday, the rescue team found 4 bodies at an altitude of 15,700 feet. Rescued a living person at an altitude of 16,800 feet. His condition was very bad and he could not even move. Even on the morning of 22 October, the crew members managed to rescue one person and bring back 5 bodies from a height of 16,500 feet despite bad weather and strong wind. A joint patrol has traced two more bodies.

The team had left for Chitkul from Harshil
This team left from Harshil to Chitkul through a tracking agency of Mori Sankri. This team had taken an innerline permit from the forest department of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand for trekking on the Lamkhaga pass from October 13 to 21, but due to bad weather between October 17 and 19, the team went astray.

One of the rescued people is in critical condition.
After the loss of contact with the trekking team and it did not reach Chitkul on 19 October, the trekking tour agency started rescue efforts and contacted the Uttarakhand and Himachal government. After this the search for this team was started. The Kinnaur district administration got information about the disappearance of this team only on Wednesday. After this the district administration sent QRT team, police and forest department team towards Chitkul Kande for rescue. Kinnaur DC Abid Hussain Sadiq said that some members of the missing team have been found. Search is on for the rest. Of the two people who have been rescued, only one condition is said to be critical.
