Boat-shaped with Brahma Kamal: PM Modi’s cap at Dhami’s swearing-in ceremony speaks to the tradition of Uttarakhand

PM Modi wore the traditional cap of Uttarakhand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues the tradition of wearing caps from different states and cultures. On Wednesday, he along with Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath SinghBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda was present at the swearing-in ceremony of Pushkar Singh Dhami as the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. For the event, PM Modi was seen wearing a cap from Uttarakhand with ‘Brahma Kamal’, the state flower of Uttarakhand that blooms in the mountains. Boat-shaped, black in colour, and made of embossed Brahma Kamal cap.

The flower, which blooms only after sunset, has purple flower heads enclosed in boat-shaped and layers of greenish-yellow petals. This flower grows only once a year from August to mid-September. Usually this flower is used for worship. Sacred temples like Kedarnath and Badrinath offer lotus flowers to Brahma while worshiping. It stands for ‘Lotus of Brahma’. Not only this, the flower has many medicinal properties. Locals use it to heal bruises and cuts.

PM Modi had earlier worn the cap on Republic Day 2022

This is not the first time that PM Narendra Modi has donned the traditional cap of Uttarakhand. Earlier, on the 73rd Republic Day i.e. 26 January, he was seen wearing a cap with a stole of Manipur. Impressed by the choice and fashion of the MP, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed ‘heartfelt gratitude’ to Modi ‘on behalf of the 1.25 crore people of Uttarakhand’.
