BMC will issue passes for Mumbai local train today. Know how to get it

New Delhi: As Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that Mumbai local trains will open for those who have been vaccinated for COVID-19 from August 15, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday began the process of issuing passes for local train passengers. According to the rules, a passenger has to fulfill two conditions to travel in a Mumbai local train. Apart from being fully immunized, travelers will also have to ensure that there is a gap of 14 days from the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before travelling.

How to get pass for commuting in local trains?

Local travelers to Mumbai can apply for the pass through both online and offline channels. BMC said in a release on Tuesday that passes would be issued after verification of vaccination status. Passengers who wish to obtain the pass need to carry a hard copy of the COVID-19 vaccination final certificate and a photo ID for verification.

An application is being developed for online method to help eligible passengers to get monthly train passes on their smartphones. This train pass can be downloaded in their smartphone after thorough verification. Photo passes can be availed at ward offices and train stations for fully vaccinated passengers without a smartphone.

There will be a QR code nearby to establish its authenticity.

A total of 358 help desks will be set up at 53 railway stations under the jurisdiction of BMC.

Help desks will be set up by the concerned authorities at 56 suburban stations falling in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (outside BMC limits). Such help desks will be operational in two consecutive sessions from 7 am to 11 pm. Passengers can go to their home at the nearest station for verification but avoid overcrowding.

Also, note that the submission of a fake vaccination certificate to obtain the pass will result in strict legal action. BMC said that this facility will be made available online, for which the process of making an app is going on.

Nodal officers have been appointed for the implementation of the entire process and necessary training is being imparted to the employees.

“The offline process for issuance of monthly season passes will continue on all seven days of the week till further orders and hence people need not visit the railway stations,” Mint said in the civic body’s report.

What to pay attention to?

It is important to note that if any of the two documents including vaccination certificate and photo ID are missing, the person will be denied entry at the railway station. Citizen staff at a help desk will check the validity of the final vaccination certificate (second dose) on the CoWin app.

“Once the verification is completed and both the documents are found to be valid, the certificate and identity proof will be stamped in the prescribed format,” the BMC said. To get the pass, the stamped Kovid certificate will have to be shown at the ticket window.
