Bmc Resumes Dumping Of Waste At Bhuasuni Yard | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) heaved a sigh of relief on Wednesday after waste-carrying vehicles entered Bhuasuni dumping yard in Daruthenga village on the outskirts of the city. In the first phase, more than 20 trucks of garbage from the temporary transit station (TTS) in the city were taken to Bhuasuni yard.
BMC commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said they have started transporting waste from TTS near Sainik School to Bhuasuni dumping yard. “Due to Ganesh puja celebrations on Wednesday, waste transportation was a bit slow. It will be normal from Thursday. The TTS will be cleared from waste gathered there,” he added.
He said the BMC has prepared a master plan to reduce waste dumping. “We will adhere to the timeline of nine months to stop dumping at the Bhuasuni yard. We will not violate this. We will increase capacity to process the remaining garbage collected from the city and to bring the dumping level to almost zero in the next nine months, he added.
He said the BMC will not need any dumping yard after nine months as it will process the garbage at micro composting centres (MCCs) and material recovery facilities (MRFs) in the city.
The civic body has identified four places in the city to set up mega micro composting centres shortly to process garbage. Out of 41 MCCs planned, the BMC has set up 34. Similarly, it has installed 14 material recovery centres to recycle the waste materials.
On Tuesday, a high-level meeting was conducted here between the representatives of the village and a government team led by urban development minister Usha Devi to end the logjam over the waste disposal at Bhuasuni dumping yard. The issue was resolved in the meeting.
The TTS was filled up with garbage as it could not be transported to Bhuasuni dumping yard because of opposition from the Daruthenga villagers. The stalemate went on for nearly 20 days.
