Shiv Sena-controlled BMC has sent notice to Union minister and BJP leader Narayan Rane’s bungalow in Mumbai for allegedly making unauthorized changes.

In a notice issued on Friday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked the owner of the bungalow to show sufficient cause within seven days as to why such changes should not be removed.

The BMC’s notice referred to “unauthorized” changes in usage in seven of the eight floors (except the seventh floor) of the basement and the bungalow. Last month, a team of civic officials inspected a bungalow named ‘Adheesh’ in the Juhu area here for alleged violation of Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) norms. This notice has been served under section 351(1) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act, 1888.

In a notice issued by a designated officer of the K-West ward, the BMC said that the changes made in the bungalow were not in line with the plans approved by the civic body.

“I, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 351 (1A) of the said Act, direct you to show sufficient cause, by a statement in writing by you or by an agent duly authorized by you in that behalf and addressed to undersigned and delivered within 7 days of the receipt of this notice, as to why the said building or work shall not be removed or replaced or demolished or restored,” said the official.

The notice asks the owner of the bungalow to show sufficient cause to prove that the said act has been done in accordance with the provisions of sections 337/342 and 347 of the MMC Act.

“It is to be noted that in case you fail to show sufficient cause as stated above, the said building or work will be removed / replaced / demolished / used restored premises at your own risk and cost , and you are liable to be prosecuted under section 475A of the said Act, which is punishable with imprisonment and fine,” the notice said.

Former Shiv Sena leader Narayan Rane is a bitter critic of his former party and its chief chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
