BLW installed EOTT device in goods train. Varanasi News – Times of India

Varanasi: Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), in collaboration with Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO), Lucknow, has successfully implemented the task of mounting an ‘End of Train Telemetry’ (EOTT) device in a goods train (Engine No. 32266).
BLW spokesperson Rajesh Kumar said on Wednesday that similar equipment would be installed in other goods trains after successful trials. According to him, BLWs have been selected by the Railway Board to implement a major mission project (EOTT) of the Indian Railways, which seeks to replace guard and brake vans (BVs) in goods trains.
EOTT is a low-cost radio telemetry device used to establish communication between the driver of the locomotive and the last wagon of the train to ensure that the train operates with all the wagons as a complete unit. . BLW is the convener of the task force for smooth coordination and streamlining of project implementation.
An EOTT set consists of a cab unit also called a communication display unit and a rear unit, also called a sense and brake unit or end of train unit. The rear unit is attached to the rear coupler of the last wagon of the rake. The cab unit and rear unit communicate over a radio link enabling two-way transmission of status data and instructions to the rear unit.
In November 2020, Railway Board gave in-principle approval to equip all freight trains with EOTT devices, which would replace the standard guard/brake vans at the end of every goods rake.
