Several people have tweeted, urging Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for permanent improvements on the major National Highway (NH) section connecting the port city and Bengaluru. Commuters say that the condition of the highway between Maranahalli and Sakleshpur is so pathetic that it becomes difficult to travel even in AC buses.
Durga Ramdas Kateel @durgaramdas tweeted along with the pictures: “This is the position of #NH75 between Maranahalli to Sakleshpur. We will not sleep on these roads during the night journey. Same is the case with AC sleeper bus. Need a permanent solution for this @nitin_gadkari sir. One rain and we see this condition of our roads.”
“After several hundreds or thousands of crores for more than 20 years, the connectivity between the top two business hubs of tax, Bangalore and Mangalore, is nothing but pathetic. The constituencies on this 350 km are represented by former PM, senior government of India (East) Minister & BJP State President,” tweeted Arun @arunpadaki tagging the Union Minister’s handle.
Rakesh @rakeshsalian88 wrote: “@nitin_gadkari sir this has become an annual matter, every year authority does patch work after monsoon and promises permanent solution, but no action on ground afterwards.”
Rashmi, who traveled in a KSRTC bus from Bengaluru to Mangaluru on Friday, told TOI that traveling on the Sakleshpur section of Ghat Road was a nightmare, as the roads are in pathetic condition. “Since the bus jumps a lot, you feel nauseous. Thankfully, I took a day bus, traveling at night would be worse. Challenge for the drivers. KSRTC is already going through a crisis due to the pandemic. , and bad roads will add to the crisis due to high wear and tear,” she said.
Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said he would discuss the issue with Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and NHAI officials. “I will speak to the MP and officials to take necessary steps immediately,” he said.
Meanwhile, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel could not be reached for comment.
