The CCTV footage of Sanjay Roy, the arrested accused in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee PG doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has now surfaced on the social media.
What does CCTV footage reveal?
According to the footage as accessed by News18 Bangla, the accused can be seen entering the medical facility on the night of August 9, hours before he allegedly committed the heinous act. Roy is seen wearing jeans and a t-shirt, with a helmet in hand — a helmet that is notably part of the uniform issued to Kolkata Police personnel.

In the footage, Roy was seen with a Bluetooth device hanging around his neck while entering the seminar hall. The same Bluetooth device was later recovered from the crime scene. When the investigators paired it with Roy’s mobile phone, it was connected.
According to sources as reported by the news outlet, Roy was seen coming out of the seminar room forty minutes after he was seen entering through the corridor. However, the footage of Sanjay’s coming out is not there.
Based on the CCTV footage from the hospital and the recovered Bluetooth device, Kolkata Police arrested Roy and questioned him. During the interrogation, he confessed to his crime.

According to sources in the CBI which is probing the incident, revealed that Roy appears to be a “sexual pervert” who has shown no remorse during his questioning. Before the investigation was handed over to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court, Kolkata Police had also found a large chunk of pornographic content on the mobile phone seized from Roy.

Amid the ongoing protests, some miscreants entered the premises of state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 14 and vandalised portions of the medical facility, where the body of the victim was found. The Calcutta High Court on August 13 had an order to transfer the probe from Kolkata Police to the CBI.
The Kolkata case has shaken the country, brought the functioning of RG Kar hospital under scrutiny, led to the ouster of its principal, and triggered massive protests by the medical fraternity’s students and civil society.
