Blair Dessey says after release from prison: ‘I have learned to listen’ – Henry Club

RICHMOND, VA – Margaret “Blair” Dessey has been released from prison after receiving a pardon from Governor Ralph Northam late last year.

According to CBS6 sources, Desi released on Tuesday.

Desi Rusty was serving time for her role in the death of a Colonial Heights man named Mack. He kicked Mac in the head during a fight with several men.

Northam pardoned 26-year-old Dessie while he had 13 years left in his sentence. Deci has completed seven years of her sentence and now has to complete anger management and other transitional courses.

Northam would not go into details about the pardon, but said his apology request was thoroughly investigated and that he believes in second chances.

“It’s a little overwhelming, but I’m happy to be back to normal,” Dessi said in an interview with CBS 6’s John Burkett. “I mean, it’s hard for someone in my position to get a second chance.”

Dessi said she survived trouble while in prison. She maintained a job, attended school, and graduated with her associate’s degree. She is currently pursuing her graduation in psychology.

These are all reasons why state Senator Joe Morrissey said he had no problem asking for his release.

“He’s a classic example of someone who deserves a pardon. Earning an associate’s degree, getting a four-year degree, taking advantage of every opportunity in prison to finish first in his class. A splendid one.” ” Model is a prisoner. What did he do in seven years in prison? He has always helped others,” Morrissey said.

“I’ve learned to listen. To stop and listen. I didn’t always take the best advice in the past and I learned to improve myself and stay motivated. When you lose your motivation in such a place, that’s the worst thing to do.” you can do it.” Because you will be affected by many things. And I just want to prove that I’m not the person who made that horrible, terrible mistake that night. It was a complete accident and tragedy,” Desi said.

Dessi said his time in prison was tough, but believes he gathered a lot of knowledge along the way.

“I have a lot to learn. I’m a better person for it,” Dessi said.

She said that she wants to go to law school and fight for young people who can’t be understood while moving on from prison.

“I think the system is too harsh on teenagers. And people want a chance. The worst thing you can do in prison is not give anyone a chance. If you don’t give anyone a chance, better for them.” There is no reason to do so,” Desi said.

When Mack’s parents learn that Deci has been pardoned by the governor, they say they are outraged and shocked by the decision. Desi hopes they can forgive him one day.

“I just want to let them know that I didn’t mean to hurt her that night. I didn’t mean anything like that and I’m sorry it happened. And I’ll do my best to be the best positive example I can.” want to try. moving on. and I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” said Desi.
