New Delhi: Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait said farmers will observe a ‘protest day’ today to demand the Center to fulfill its promise regarding the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Tikait said, “Protest day will be observed across the country on January 31. We demand that the Center fulfill its promise on the MSP made by them in Delhi. And also quash the cases against farmers registered during the year-long protest.” “

He also said that the protest has nothing to do with the upcoming assembly elections in five states.
“Protest is different from election. I have one vote and I will give it to someone. I am not supporting anybody. If people are happy with the government, they will vote for it, if they are angry, they will vote for someone else.” Will vote for you,” he added.
Addressing a press conference earlier this month, BKU leaders had announced that they would observe a ‘protest day’ on January 31 if the Center did not respond to their demands.
BKU leader Yudhveer Singh said, “So far, the Center has neither formed any committee on MSP nor contacted us. The government has not removed the MoS, whose son is involved in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.”
“Our agitation was suspended on December 11. The government has not yet responded to our demands, we will burn effigies on the government on January 31 across the country,” he said.

Umbrella farmers organisation, Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, had announced the withdrawal of its year-long protest after asking the central government to constitute a committee on MSP and immediately withdraw the cases against them.
Farmers had held a year-long protest at Delhi’s borders against three agricultural laws that were passed in September 2020. The laws were repealed through the Agricultural Law Repeal Bill which was passed by both houses of Parliament on 29 November and onwards. Obtained the assent of President Ram Nath Kovind.
