BJP workers clash with police in Odisha, 4 injured

Cuttack, October 22 (IANS) | At least four people, including three policemen, were injured in a clash between security personnel and BJP workers on the premises of a police station in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday. A senior official gave this information. BJP workers were staging a sit-in outside Narsinghpur police station demanding the detention of three party members when some women agitators tried to lock the doors, the official said.

The police then lathi-charged to disperse the crowd. In the scuffle, stones were pelted and a protestor and three policemen, one of whom was a woman, were injured.

According to the saffron party, the police picked up three BJP workers – Manoj Nayak, Ranjan Samantre and Lipaya Baliyarsingh from Ratapata village – on Thursday night in connection with the face-off between BJD and BJP workers at Narsinghpur court premises on October 5. However, the police claimed that he was detained in a kidnapping and assault case registered earlier this year.
