Mukul Roy surprised journalists when he remarked that the saffron party would win the upcoming by-elections in the state.

Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy, who had entered the party days after winning the Krishnanagar North assembly seat on a BJP ticket, on Friday stunned reporters when he remarked that the saffron party would win the upcoming bypolls in the state. Realizing his wrongdoings, Roy immediately corrected himself by saying that he actually meant TMC.
His remarks were greeted with glee by the BJP, stating that he “unintentionally told the truth. . He will win in Tripura. There is no doubt about it.” Even as there was stunned people present, the former railway minister quickly corrected himself and said that “the Trinamool Congress will undoubtedly win the bypolls. BJP will be defeated,” he said. “Maa Mati Manush Party (TMC) will be the winner here and will open its account in Tripura as well.
“BJP will not be anywhere in the state. They will perish. Mamata Banerjee will continue to take charge of Bengal.” She won in 2019. He had returned to the TMC soon after his victory from Krishnanagar North in May this year as a BJP candidate.
BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya said, “Mukulda has cheated his voters in Krishnanagar North. They have lost their credibility. But he has spoken the truth. The truth has probably come out of his mouth because he is under a lot of mental stress.”
A TMC leader from Nadia district said, “Mukulda had inadvertently mentioned the BJP earlier which slipped. What he really meant was that TMC would do well in the next by-election. He also said that the BJP will be nowhere.”
