‘BJP using Governors as ‘karyakartas’…’ Mallikarjun Kharge slams centre amid Tamil Nadu vs Thamizhagam row

New Delhi: Reacting to the tussle between the Tamil Nadu government and Governor RN Ravi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said the BJP was using governors as ‘karyakartas’ (party workers). Kharge said the recent “brazen violation of the Constitution” by some of them has tarnished the federal structure of Indian politics. Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Monday courted a major political controversy when he said that ‘Tamizhgam’ would be a more appropriate name for the state instead of ‘Tamil Nadu’. Ruckus broke out in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday when the governor arrived for his customary address. Ravi had a face-off with the state government in the Assembly, where Chief Minister MK Stalin, who is also the president of the ruling DMK, moved a motion against the Governor deviating from his traditional address to the House. After a face-off, the governor made an unprecedented walkout from the assembly.

Taking to Twitter, Kharge said, “BJP’s well-planned conspiracy to defame them by using the constitutional office of governors in opposition-ruled states as ‘activists’ is an attack on democracy. The structure of our politics.”

“Governors have to work within the framework of the Constitution and cannot disrespect the Legislature of which they are a part. But are manipulated by their Delhi masters to create social and political unrest in states ruled by parties other than the BJP. That’s going to be dangerous.” The Congress President alleged.
