Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha recently left the Congress and joined TMC. According to Shatrughan Sinha, Prashant Kishor and former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha played an important role in his joining TMC. On the question of leaving Congress, he said- I don’t think this is the right time to talk about it, will talk about it again sometime.

Sinha, who started his political journey with BJP, said- It is an honor to be associated with Mamata Banerjee’s party. She had been asking me to join the party for a long time. Mamta had tweeted that I should be in Trinamool Congress and contest from Asansol parliamentary seat.

Will contest elections from Asansol
With Sinha joining the party, TMC has announced candidates for the by-elections to be held on one seat each in the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha. TMC has fielded Shatrughan Sinha in the Asansol Lok Sabha bypoll. At the same time, Babul Supriyo is the candidate in the Ballygunge assembly by-election.

The Asansol seat was vacated by the resignation of Babul Supriyo. Supriyo has left the BJP and joined the Trinamool Congress. Babul has won the elections from Asansol twice on a BJP ticket. Asansol is the second largest city in West Bengal after Kolkata. Therefore, all eyes are on the by-election to be held on this seat.

Split from BJP in 2019
Sinha joined the BJP in 1991. He was given many important responsibilities in the party. Made a Rajya Sabha member and was a minister at the Centre. Gave ticket from Patna Sahib and he also won the Lok Sabha elections. In 2014, when he did not get a ministerial post at the Centre, relations with the BJP soured. In 2019, when the BJP made Ravi Shankar Prasad its candidate from Patna Sahib, the enemy had joined the Congress.

Contested from Patna Sahib on Congress ticket, but lost. Shatrughan was so furious at the BJP that he got his son Luv Sinha to contest from Bankipur against BJP’s Nitin Naveen on a Congress ticket, but the son also lost. Shatrughan’s wife Poonam contested from Lucknow on SP ticket against Union Minister Rajnath Singh and lost.
