BJP should apologize to the people of Assam: Congress on Election Commission’s warning to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

The Congress on Wednesday said the Election Commission should have given Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma more severe punishment for violating the model code of conduct and demanded that the BJP apologize to the people of the state.

Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said on Twitter, “Assam Chief Minister, Mr Himanta Biswa Sarma accused of violation of election code of conduct, tendered an unconditional apology, warns ECI. Shameful and illegal attempts to influence voters. exposed.”

“The Election Commission should have given more severe punishment. BJP should now apologize to the people of Assam,” he said.

The Election Commission released Sarma after warning him of violating the model code of conduct during the election campaign for the October 30 assembly bypolls in the state.

The Congress had earlier demanded strict action against Sarma and an FIR against him and restraining him from campaigning.
