BJP rethinks campaign strategy amid ban on EC rallies, third wave, plans booth-level meeting

As the Election Commission has banned physical rallies and road shows till January 22, the BJP has formed teams to monitor the campaign at the grassroots level as part of its strategy to reach out to voters ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

According to sources, BJP national president JP Nadda in a recent meeting has formed teams that will ensure that maximum voters reach out and the top leadership conducts booth-level meetings in five poll-bound states.

The tasks assigned to various committees include liaising with key voters and influencing them at the booth level.

The leaders have been instructed that 20 to 50 voters should gather in each house and 8 to 10 meetings should be held at each booth. The leaders have been told that they have to attend two meetings.

Sources said that amid the third wave of Covid-19, the party had to rethink its strategy in the poll-bound states.

While one group will oversee the indoor meetings, the other will oversee the virtual meetings, which will be live from the BJP headquarters. Both Mahila and Yuva Morcha have been given the responsibility of campaigning in public places. They would interact with people on public transport, and set up stalls where women could plant ‘henna’ like a ‘kamal’ (lotus).

The party has also decided to hold regular video conferences for those facing uncomfortable questions from the public.

A separate session will be planned for what to say to the public asking uncomfortable questions. The BJP is finalizing the list of senior citizens, COVID patients and specially-abled people who can vote through ballot papers, and a ‘karyakarta’ will be in charge of 20 voters.

The BJP has decided to engage national and district level leaders to adopt a new way of campaigning.

According to sources, as part of the strategy, workers will be deployed at the booth level to ensure that party supporters go out to vote on the day of polling.
