BJP rejects CM’s call to be part of all-party delegation to meet PM for caste based census Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi : Opposition BJP On Monday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s call to join a all party delegation To pressurize to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi caste based census. Earlier, Soren had written to Modi seeking time to meet the delegation on the issue.
Addressing a press conference, BJP state unit president and Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash said his party would not be a part of the delegation, accusing the ruling alliance of doing “petty” politics over the issue of OBC reservation. His statement has come on a day when Congress The party was hosting the meeting of all non-NDA parties as part of its move to form a united front against the BJP, both in the state and at the Centre.
“We have not received any invitation to be part of the delegation. Besides, we don’t believe in his leadership. If we have to meet the PM, BJP will meet him independently. Why should we go with them? Congress and their allies are shedding crocodile tears today but they never cared for OBC and backward castes while in power. Only BJP and Modi ji are the messiahs of the poor and downtrodden.
Questioning the agenda of the meeting organized by the Congress, Prakash claimed that it was another “ploy” by the oldest party to dupe the people of the state.
“We don’t know the purpose of the meeting called by Congress, but BJP strongly demands that Hemant Soren government implement 27% reservation for OBCs in Jharkhand for jobs and education,” Prakash said.
He further said, “I have come to know about some statements made by some leaders of the ruling party that they will resort to protest if 27% reservation is not given. We want to ask the coalition government of Congress, JMM and RJD here. What has stopped them from giving reservation. Along with the 27% OBC reservation, the state government should also give 10% quota to other economically backward people on the lines of the policy implemented for this purpose by the central government.
Presently, OBCs in the state are demanding 27% reservation, which was promised by the ruling coalition parties in their election manifesto. Now OBCs have got 14 percent reservation in Jharkhand. The Central Government recently passed a bill in the Monsoon Session of Parliament empowering the states to take decisions on increasing the quota for OBCs in their respective areas. However, several non-BJP-ruled states are demanding a caste-based census in the upcoming nationwide population survey, claiming that without actual data on the existing population across different caste categories, it is difficult to take a decision on reservation.
Prakash also targeted the state government on other issues including deteriorating law and order and incidents of alleged corruption in the public distribution system.
