BJP Pursuing Vendetta Politics, Targeting Abhishek Banerjee: CM Mamata

New Delhi: Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of doing politics of vendetta, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that the ruling party at the Center was targeting her nephew and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Continuing his anger, the TMC supremo said his party leaders were being summoned by central agencies after the bypoll dates were announced.

“They cannot fight politically, so they stopped the Congress with the help of agencies. They are doing the same to me,” Banerjee said.

“They are calling again for questioning, but in fact, the one whose name has come up in relation to Narada has not been called,” he said, pointing to his disciple-turned-rival Suvendu Adhikari.

Earlier on Monday, Enforcement Directorate officials questioned Abhishek Banerjee for nearly nine hours in the national capital in a money laundering case related to an alleged coal theft scam in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, the chief minister hinted at his defeat in Nandigram assembly constituency, alleging that he has to contest the bypoll again because of a conspiracy hatched by the BJP.

“Only God knows the way the elections were held. Kendra lied, still couldn’t beat me. There was a conspiracy behind the attack on me in Nandigram. 1000 goons came from outside to mislead about Bengal,” she said while speaking at the TMC workers’ convention at Chetla under Bhawanipur assembly constituency, reported ANI.

The TMC supremo further said that she will file her nomination for the Bhabnipur assembly by-election on September 10.

“Sovandeb Chattopadhyay will contest from Khardaha assembly constituency. He had resigned for me. He will continue as a minister,” she said.

TMC’s Sovandeb Chattopadhyay stepped down as the MLA of Bhabnipur, giving his party supremo a chance to become a member of the state assembly by contesting a by-election.
