BJP not satisfied with the suspension of MLAs, MLAs can go to court

A few days ago, the assembly became heated over the Rampurhat incident. Trinamool and BJP MLAs clashed. After that Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay suspended 5 BJP MLAs including Leader of Opposition Shuvendu Adhikari. All five have been suspended for one year. The Speaker informed in a letter that the MLAs concerned would not be able to enter the Assembly during the suspension. Challenging the Speaker’s decision, BJP is going to approach the court this time.

According to party sources, BJP MLAs are consulting lawyers for this. BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya said yesterday, “BJP will continue its agitation against the authoritarian move of the speaker.” According to BJP, the Speaker’s decision is unconstitutional. According to sources, the BJP wants to use the Supreme Court’s decision on the dismissal of MLAs as a tool.

Since the commencement of the Badal session last July, 12 MLAs of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly have been suspended for one year by the Speaker. 12 MLAs challenged the decision and approached the Supreme Court. In that case, the Supreme Court had sharply criticized the Speaker of the Assembly. Later, the Supreme Court revoked the suspension of the MLAs. The top court said that no MLA can be suspended for more than 59 days. At present, 6 BJP MLAs are suspended. BJP MLA from Natabari Mihbir Goswami and BJP MLA from Purulia Sudip Mukherjee were earlier suspended on the day of the Governor’s budget speech.
