BJP MLA releases ‘proof’ of AIMIM MLA’s son’s involvement in Hyderabad gangrape, Congress retaliates

In the escalating controversy surrounding the accused of gang-raping a minor in Hyderabad, BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao displayed some photographs and a video clip of the victim and a youth, urging the police to clarify whether the photographs and videos The young man seen in the clip is someone’s son. AIMIM MLA.

“As an MLA, it is not my job to investigate any crime. But, since I was challenged to provide evidence, here it is,” he said while displaying a short video clip shot in a car, which showed four youths and a girl.

“As a lawyer, I am aware that there are restrictions on the involvement of minors in such a case. The minor girl cannot be identified from the clip but you can clearly see the MLA’s son. If this evidence is not enough, I can provide the full video with some pictures of all the accused in the car to the DGP. India today.

Reports said that video clips and photographs shared by the BJP MLA showed a youth, who claims to be the son of an AIMIM MLA, indulging in intimate acts with a minor girl in the presence of other accused.

However, the police have so far maintained that the AIMIM MLA’s son was not present at the time of the crime.

BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao questioned the police as to why the MLA’s son was not named as an accused. He further said that he has more evidence to prove the involvement of the AIMIM MLA’s son in the crime.

Hyderabad Police on Saturday arrested two teenagers and an 18-year-old in this case. Since one of the teenage boys accused in the incident is said to be the son of a ruling leader, the opposition BJP and Congress have stepped up their demand for a CBI probe.

Telangana Congress in-charge and MP Manickam Tagore slammed Raghunandan Rao for releasing the video with pictures of the victim and the minor.

“One of the accused in the rape case is allegedly the son of a MIM (All India All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) MLA. By exposing the video, Raghunandan compromised both the case and the safety of the victim and her family. Is it because of unholy alliance between TRS, BJP and MIM? Is their bond more important than justice for a minor girl?” The Congress leader questioned.

Police said an 18-year-old man, out of five already identified accused, was arrested on June 3. A total of three persons, including two juveniles, have been detained in the case so far, police said.

Both these CCLs (children in conflict with law) will be produced in a juvenile court for their safe custody, police said in a release.

The opposition BJP and Congress demanded that the TRS government hand over the probe to the CBI to ensure a fair probe. In an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, state BJP president and MP, Bandi Sanjay Kumar referred to media reports about the alleged involvement of kin of some politically influential people.

The BJP leader said when allegations of involvement of family members of people associated with ruling TRS’ friendly party AIMIM came to the fore, conducting a CBI probe was the minimum responsibility of the state government. He urged that pubs should be closed in Telangana.

Kumar also sought convening of an all-party meeting to discuss the law and order situation in the state, the growing concern over the problem of ‘narcotics’ and several other incidents in the state during the last eight years. BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to DGP Mahender Reddy and demanded transfer of the case to the CBI. Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka also supported a CBI probe into the alleged rape of the teenager.

Police had said on Friday that a teenager, who had gone to a pub here on May 28 for a one-day party, was gang-raped by five men, including three minors. The girl was sexually assaulted in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) here, police said on Friday.
