BJP leader files case against Ram Gopal Varma for remarks on Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu

Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Telangana G Narayan Reddy has filed a complaint at Abids police station against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma for allegedly making derogatory tweets on presidential election candidate Draupadi Murmu. Hyderabad Police on Friday said that they will soon register a criminal case against him, Hindustan Times reports.

“We have received the complaint and have sent it for legal opinion. After getting a legal opinion, we will register a case against Verma under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act,” Abids Police Inspector B Prasad Rao told the publication.

It all started when RGV tweeted, “If Draupadi is the President then who are the Pandavas? And more importantly, who are the Kauravas?” He later gave a clarification which read, “This was just said in a serious irony and not intended in any other way.. Draupadi is my favorite character in the Mahabharata, but since the name is so rare, I need to know the characters concerned.” Missed and hence my expression. There is absolutely no intention to hurt anyone’s sentiments.”

Hindustan Times further reported that, in his complaint, Reddy said that RGV’s remarks were highly derogatory and derogatory to a senior woman politician and former governor of Jharkhand. He also demanded registration of a case under the SC/ST Act.

On the other hand, BJP leader P Muralidhar Rao took to Twitter to target the filmmaker. He wrote, “Crooked character is displayed! When we talk about an honorable there is a certain dignity to be followed. Personality like a presidential candidate. In the case of a woman it becomes even more important. Strict action should be needed against this man who thinks he can run away easily.”

This is not the first time that Ram Gopal Varma’s tweet has landed him in hot water. Filmmakers often make headlines for their controversial statements.
