Calling it a “massive revelation”, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya alleged that a motorcycle used by main accused Sanjay Roy was registered in the name of the Kolkata police commissioner and this needed “serious” investigation

Amid clashes between police and protesters at the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ rally demanding the resignation of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, an already-charged BJP once again accused Kolkata’s top cop and state government of attempting to cover up the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Calling it a “massive revelation”, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya alleged that a motorcycle used by the main accused in the case, Sanjay Roy, was registered in the name of the Kolkata police commissioner and this needed “serious” investigation. The Kolkata Police, however, was quick to respond to this allegation saying all such vehicles used by the force are registered under the police commissioner’s post before being assigned to different units.

“Sanjoy Roy, accused in the RG Kar MCH rape and murder case, as per Kolkata Police and the TMC, on the fateful night, was riding a bike registered in the name of Kolkata Police Commissioner. The same Commissioner, who called it a suicide, without even a proper investigation. Mamata Banerjee was constantly in touch with him all through out,” Malviya wrote in a post on social media platform X.

He called for the chief minister and the police commissioner to step down so as to enable a “free and fair probe”. The CBI took over the investigation into the woman doctor’s death on August 13, after some harsh observations into the probe by the city police.

The Kolkata Police, in its clarification, said the bike was seized and handed over to the CBI and “some individuals on social media” are trying to create confusion. The police said while it was registered in the name of the police commissioner, all vehicles in the force have the same registration under the post before being assigned to different units.

‘Did deceased discover something about spurious drugs syndicate…’

Alleging there is a conspiracy behind the woman doctor’s death, Malviya further said the CBI should take Banerjee and Goyal in custody and subject them to a lie-detection test as well as scrutinise their phone records.

He pointed towards a “drugs syndicate” in the chest medicine department of the RG Kar hospital, which he said was being alleged by the larger medical fraternity. Alleging there are “many layers to it”, he sought to know if “original drugs” were illegally being sent to neighbouring countries and being replaced with diluted or contaminated samples.

The senior BJP leader said the trainee doctor was a pulmonologist and could have stumbled upon “spurious” activities as large consignments of tuberculosis drugs are procured using taxpayers’ money.

“Did the deceased discover something about the spurious drugs syndicate in the Chest Medicine Department, as is being alleged by those in the medical fraternity? She was a Pulmonologist and large consignments of TB drugs, for instance, is procured using tax payers money. Is there a syndicate, which was exporting original drugs to neighbouring countries and replacing them with diluted/contaminated samples?” he asked.

He added: “There are so many layers to it. The CBI has a tough job on hand, since Kolkata Police and Mamata Banerjee have done everything possible to eliminate all evidences and protect those involved.”
