BJP India’s richest political party in 2019-20, Congress slips to third place: Report

New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday declared assets worth Rs 4,847.78 crore in the financial year 2019-20, the highest among all political parties in the country, according to a report by Association for Association Is. Democratic Reform (ADR).

According to the report, titled ‘Analysis of assets and liabilities of national and regional political parties for the financial year 2019-20’, the total assets declared by seven national and 44 regional parties during the financial year (FY) 2019-20 stood at Rs. 6,988.57 crore and Rs 2,129.38 crore respectively.

The list was followed by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which declared assets worth Rs 698.33 crore (9.99 per cent), and Indian National Congress (INC) declared assets of Rs 588.16 crore (8.42 per cent).

“Among the seven national parties, the highest assets declared by the BJP at Rs 4,847.78 crore (69.37 per cent) for the financial year 2019-20, followed by the BSP at Rs 698.33 crore (9.99 per cent) and the Congress at Rs 588.16 property declared. crore (8.42 per cent),” the report said.

The total liabilities declared by seven national and 44 regional political parties for the financial year 2019-20 is Rs.134.93 crore. Liabilities declared by political parties fall under two important heads – borrowings (from banks, overdraft facilities and miscellaneous creditors) and various liabilities.

“Political parties declared Rs 34.55 crore (25.61 per cent) under borrowings and Rs 100.38 crore (74.39 per cent) under other liabilities.”

In addition, national political parties declared full liabilities of Rs 74.27 crore in FY 2019-20 – Rs 4.26 crore under borrowings and Rs 70.01 crore under other liabilities.

Congress announced the highest total liabilities of Rs 49.55 crore – accounting for 67 per cent of the total, followed by AITC at Rs 11.32 crore – 15.24 per cent.

The report also said that the top 10 parties have assets worth Rs 2,028.715 crore – 95.27 per cent of the total assets declared among all 44 regional political parties for the financial year 2019-20.

Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party declared its assets worth Rs 563.47 crore (26.46 per cent), followed by TRS at Rs 301.47 crore and AIADMK at Rs 267.61 crore.

The total liability of regional political parties in the financial year 2019-20 is Rs 60.66 crore. He declared Rs 30.29 crore under borrowings and Rs 30.37 crore under other liabilities.

In the financial year 2019-20, the top 10 regional political parties declared total liabilities of Rs 57.314 crore (94.48 per cent), while the remaining 34 declared total liabilities of Rs 3.346 crore.

“In FY 2019-20, TDP declared the highest total liabilities of Rs 30.342 crore (50.02 per cent), followed by DMK at Rs 8.05 crore (13.27 per cent),” the report said.
