Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva hit back saying it was the AAP who asked its councilors to do so and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would be responsible if the House is adjourned.

Ahead of the MCD House session on Monday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged that the BJP has instructed its corporators to create ruckus like last time to stop the mayoral election.

Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva hit back saying it was the AAP who asked its councilors to do so and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would be responsible if the House is adjourned.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House is set to convene later in the day to elect a mayor for the city after failing to complete polling in the last two attempts.

The first two sessions – on January 6 and January 24 – were adjourned by the presiding officer without electing a mayor, following uproar and heated exchanges between BJP and AAP members.

“BJP has instructed its corporators to stop the mayoral election again today. They have been asked to create ruckus on one pretext or the other as soon as the proceedings of the House begin. The Presiding Officer will again adjourn the House sine die like last time. LG will again fix the date after 20 days, Sisodia said in a tweet in Hindi.

BJP’s Sachdeva hit back, saying Kejriwal would be responsible if the house is adjourned on Monday.

“AAP is not confident of its majority and has instructed its councilors to adjourn the House by creating ruckus on any issue. If the House is adjourned today, then Arvind Kejriwal will be responsible for it.

As per the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) Act, 1957, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are to be elected in the very first session of the House after the civic elections. However, it has been two months since the municipal elections were held on December 4 and Delhi is yet to get a mayor. PTI Abu Div Div
