The BJP expressed concern over the issue, saying it was an agenda set by the ruling party to influence the clubs that play a vital role in the electoral process and give undue advantage to Mamata Banerjee.

BJP files complaint against West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee For allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) within three days of the announcement of the Bhawanipur bypoll. The BJP delegation of party leader Pratap Banerjee, BJP MP Sukant Majumdar and Shishir Bajoria met the Chief Electoral Officer today. He objected to today’s program at Netaji Indoor Stadium, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was contesting from Bhawanipur bypoll, was present.

At that event, Durga Puja organizing clubs were present, where cash donations and other facilities were announced by the state government for 36,000 clubs in the state, including 2,500 clubs in the KMC area.

“I have to follow the model code of conduct. No new announcements, same as last year. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that a decision on the number of people coming to Durga Puja pandals in the night will be taken later, depending on how the third wave is.

The BJP expressed concern over the issue, saying it was an agenda set by the ruling party to influence the clubs that play a vital role in the electoral process and give undue advantage to Mamata Banerjee. He called it a violation of the model code of conduct and demanded strict action against the activity. He also demanded from the Election Commission that central forces should be deployed at every booth during the by-elections in Bhawanipur.

The Election Commission has announced by-elections for Bhawanipur assembly constituency and two other constituencies on September 30, just ahead of Durga Puja. Mamta Banerjee, who lost in Nandigram during the 2021 assembly elections, will contest from Bhawanipur. The opposition parties are yet to name their candidates.
