Last year, Sudeep was involved in a Twitter banter with Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn over the ‘Hindi as national language’ row.
BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said that Sudeep has earned his reputation and it is not inherited like Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The BJP on Saturday accused the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) of targeting actor Kichcha Sudeep for supporting the ruling party in poll-bound Karnataka and cited his tribal background to target his rivals.
BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said that Sudeep has earned his reputation and it is not inherited like a Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and accused opposition parties of “hypocrisy” for speaking up for freedom of expression and democratic rights on the one hand and targeting the actor for exercising his right to support a party on the other.
Speaking to reporters, Bhatia also hit back at critics for claiming that the BJP seeking support from Sudeep exposed its weakness and dependence on outsiders as he said that actors like Swara Bhaskar and Riya Sen are Gandhi’s ‘ Participated in ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.
Bhaskar had supported people raising slogans against the integrity of the country, he alleged.
Congress leaders have claimed that Sudeep’s support to the BJP was due to pressure from investigative agencies, while the JD(S) has also hit out at him.
Bhatia said this showed the “sick mentality” of both the parties, accusing them of hurting the sentiments of every Kannadiga as Sudeep is red of the soil.
He said Rahul Gandhi has the right to go abroad and “defame” India by making “false statements”, but the Congress will say it is his right to freedom of expression.
But, according to the Congress, an Indian citizen in his home state cannot choose what his political inclination would be, the BJP leader alleged.
