BIS opens doors of AHC to test non-hallmarked jewelery – Times of India

New Delhi: Consumers can now get their un-hallmarked jewelery tested for purity at any Assaying and Hallmarking Center (AHC) across the country, which has been accredited. Indian Standards Bureau (Unless).
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs said on Friday that the fee for the test gold jewelery The fee is Rs 200 for up to four items and Rs 45 per item for five or more items.

“Detailed guidelines on testing of consumer gold jewelery and list of recognized AHCs can be accessed through the home page of BIS website www.bis.gov.in,” the consumer affairs ministry said.
It said that the AHC will test gold jewelery from general consumers on a priority basis and provide a test report to the consumer.
The test report issued to the consumer will assure the consumer about the purity of his jewelery and will also be useful if the consumer wants to sell the jewelery lying with him.
“The authenticity and purity of hallmarked gold jewelery having HUID number purchased by consumers can also be verified by using ‘Verify HUID’ in BIS CARE app, which can be downloaded from Play Store,” the ministry said. ”
BIS has launched this service after the implementation of mandatory hallmarking, wherein three lakh gold items are being hallmarked with HUID every day.
