Bird flu found in turkeys in northern Israel

Turkey has been found infected with bird flu at a farm near Nahalal in northern Israel, the agriculture ministry announced on Wednesday.

The affected farm, containing 42,000 turkeys, was isolated by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Veterinary Service and operations began to take over the affected farm. The ministry is testing all the farms in the area.

The last reported incident of bird flu in Israel was in October 2020 and was handled by the Ministry of Agriculture at the exact same farm near Nahalal. In December 2020, additional cases of flu were found in Beit Shemesh in the Jordan Valley and in Kibbutz Sora near Kibbutz Galgal.

Cases of bird flu have been reported in Israel almost every year since March 2006.
