The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha of the Bimal Gurung faction met Trinamool Congress General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata on Thursday.

Roshan Giri met Abhishek along with another leader Dr RB Bhujel. Roshan said that he is in Kolkata to meet leaders and ministers of various departments to apprise them of the problems of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration. He also said that the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha delegation met Banerjee and Moloy Ghatak, MIC, PWD and Law and Judiciary.

The delegation discussed the permanent political solution in the hills, Terai and Dooars mentioned in the Election Manifesto 2021 and requested them to take immediate necessary steps in this regard. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke on finding a permanent political solution for the region in Jalpaiguri on December 15, 2020.

Roshan claimed that Banerjee had promised the delegation that she would take up the matter with the chief minister at the earliest.

There are two factions of GJM in the hills. While one is being led by Bimal Gurung and Roshan, the other is led by Binay Thamang. Though both the factions enjoy the support of TMC, there are differences between them. Since in the Darjeeling region, two seats have gone to the BJP and one to the GJM, there will be interesting twists and turns in the politics of the region. In such a situation where BJP is also insisting on meeting of North Bengal with Abhishek Banerjee, it is really important.

Besides, there are legal issues related to GTA, which were discussed with the Law Minister, Roshan said.
